Feast of the Hunter's Moon

"In 1717 the governor of New France ordered an officer, 4 soldiers, a blacksmith and three others to construct a post near the Ouia village on the Wabash river." This post is called Fort Ouiatenon and is a few miles from where we live. Every year, a Feast of the Hunter's Moon is held here. It's basically a re-enactment of the original French and Native American trading post. Costumed craftspeople open booths of everything from candles to canoes. Participants come from across the continent. We couldn't believe how big the festival was. We ate buffalo stew, buffalo chips (kind of a mix between a fry and a kettle potato chip), and croquettes. There was a lot to see and we had a good time. Later in the day, a thunderstorm broke out. We were glad we went in the morning and I wondered how the festival fared through the torrential rains.
